This Black & Decker 25-foot tape measure not only works as standard tape, but is also equipped with the Accu-Mark laser for quickly marking cut lines without reaching for a straight edge. The mechanical tape helps pinpoint the beginning of the cut at one edge of the stock. From there, the Accu-Mark shoots a laser beam perpendicular up to 10 feet across for a perfect right angle and a precise cut line. A retractable edge guide ensures that the beam is square with the edge of the wood. Trace the laser beam with a pencil and pick up that saw. The laser feature is not only great for cutting large stock; it takes the work out of hanging pictures, mirrors, installing paneling, and more. The laser also shoots from both sides of the device, so you can set the tool in the middle of stock for 5-foot beams each way. The standard measuring tape is extremely durable, comes with a handy auto-lock, and features a 7-foot stand-out that keeps the tape straight midair, to help measure vertical surfaces like siding and wall trim. --Brian D. The laser line is just not precise enough for most work. Squaring the tape measure to the board you're working on is not accurate enough to produce a nice square laser line. I was off by an eight of an inch within a foot of the tape measure. I could use another tape measure to square the laser line but then, what's the point. Just make a mark with the second tape measure or just buy a laser line square. If you just want a laser line projector, you could use this unit for that purpose and that's why I gave it two stars instead of one.
