Great for drilling pilot holes and driving screws in wood, metal and plastic, Black & Decker's 9.6-volt cordless drill/driver kit is lightweight enough for fixes and upgrades around the house and durable enough for years of use. Equipped with a keyless chuck, bit changes with this 3/8-inch drill are quick and simple. A 6-position clutch adjusts torque to prevent screws from stripping. On-board bit storage offers easy access to a variety of bits for less downtime and more productivity. The drill's mid-handle design balances the meat of the tool over the hand for easy fore-and-aft control. And, soft grips ensure optimal comfort. Variable speeds between 0 and 700 rpm in both forward and reverse let you ease screws into place to avoid splitting, or zip them in quickly to get the job done fast. I purchased this drill for basic home projects, my utlization extent was not exhaustive neither in terms of project complexity or duration, but it should provide a fairly accurate assesement of this drill set's features. It is a 9.6V drill, supposedly not too powerful, but for my basic requirements - it proved to be sufficient. One basic test I like to run on a drill is to try and drive a threaded screw in to a dry wall and in to a piece of wood without pre-drilling a hole in the surfaces. This drill failed to do so in both occasions. Guide holes needed to be drilled before the screw could be pushed in. But one advantage this drill provides is the fact that the amount of power to the drill can be controlled by how tightly you squeeze the trigger.... Meaning - in certain circumstances you dont want the drill to rotate very fast... not the torque... but just a slow speed of rotation. By gently squeezing the trigger or by increasing the pressure on the trigger, you can achieve this control. This was a very useful feature. My present more expensive drill set doesnt have this feature. However, it comes with only one battery. So if you do run out of juice in the middle of a project, then you have to wait till the battery is recharged. However, I found another great deal on the Black & Decker Firestorm Cordless Multi-Tool MT1203K-2. Since this model was 12Volts AND had a 12V drill AND a mouse sander AND a jig saw attachment, I exchanged the CD9602K 9.6-Volt for it. I was satisfied with the performance of the CD9602K 9.6-Volt drill. But it seemed a bit pricey at $39.99 and the 9.6V seemed a bit too less. Honest opinion: Go for a drill set that has atleast 2 batteries and has slightly more powerful motor. You will feel better at the end of the day. Kaushik.
