Remember the times you've used pieces of sandpaper attached to a stick or wrapped around your finger in an attempt to reach those small, irregular surfaces, or areas so tight that only the light of day could get in? Well, that era has come to an end. Skil's 7300-01 120-volt Octo Multi-Finishing Sander has eight detail sanding attachments including a unique flexible attachment to prevent accidental scarring. Now you can reach in between balusters, sand flat, round or curved surfaces, reach inside inlay areas, finish surfaces on all types of moldings including chair rail and crown molding, inside corners of cabinets or shelving or in tight places where other sanders cannot reach.
The 7300-01 has all the features you have come to expect from Skil: an ergonomically designed soft-grip handle, dust protected switch, a 10-foot six-inch cord, 3-position nose detail, a built-in work light and a dust collection canister. I have used this little sander for everything from wide panels to small, delicate boxes. The versatility is a strong point and I have put many of the attachments to use. The dust collection canister on the back falls off on a pretty regular basis and it really doesn't catch much of the dust in the first place. This is kind of incovenient but really isn't that big of a deal. HOWEVER, Given the fact that this sander is designed to be versatile, they really should have made the hook & loop (Velcro) base more durable. During the first couple paper changes, the panel that is on the sander started pulling away from the body. Even being careful not to tear at it the panel eventually came off. I have glued it back on about 3 times now and I think I may only be able to do that one or two more times before the material will be too far gone to fix. This is a design flaw that Skil should look into because it makes a great product less than ideal.
