Keyless chucks can sometimes be a mixed blessing. On the one hand, bit changes are quicker and more convenient, but bit slippage can also be an issue at times. That's not the case with the DeWalt heavy-duty 3/8-inch VSR drill kit with keyless chuck. DeWalt has equipped this tool with a two-sleeve ratcheting chuck that locks shut and holds bits firmly in place. The drill weighs just 3.5 pounds but can power its way through metal, wood and masonry, with bit capacities of 3/8 inches, one inch and 1/2 inch respectively. A 6 amp motor delivers powerful torque and speeds of 0-2,500 rpm, while an advanced brush system automatically stops the tool when the brushes wear out, preventing serious motor damage. The drill is comfortable to hold and comes with a built-in bubble level that lets you know your holes are straight and true. All in all, a very solid performer.--Carl Thress

This thing ties with my Bosch jigsaw for favorite tool in my home shop. It's tough, powerful and cheap. If you're looking for a high-quality drill for home projects, this is the one to buy. Forget cordless if you're on a budget; you'll spend more money for something less powerful that constantly runs out of power in the middle of a project. Your house has electricity. Buy an extension cord and put your money into quality rather than batteries.
