Based on a recommendation from an employee at a big box home improvement store with an orange color scheme, I purchased this handleset to install on my mother-in-law's home. I am familiar with the installation of locksets and doorknobs but I closely consulted the directions because this one has the decorative handle and is not a typical round knob on both sides. The first problem I had with the directions is that the installation instructions included with the lock are for about 6 different Shlage models that all seem to have different installation options. So, not only are there numerous extra parts in the box that you don't need and just make installation confusing, you also have to really pay close attention to the directions to make sure you are performing the right installation for your model of handleset. Second problem is that the packaging does not really indicate what model you are working with. I only figured out my model name by comparing the actual handle to the drilling template page which shows a variety of holes for different models. And finally, there were two blatant contradictions in the the installation instructions. The first instructed me to use a screw that did not fit the hole it was supposed to go into. The second problem involved lining up the mechanism inside the lock. When following their instructions, the lock did not work. I did the opposite of what the instructions said, and everything was fine. Time will tell if this is a good lock, but installation was miserable.
