This PSD is a tri-powered unit that uses either the in-unit rechargeable power source battery, three alkaline AAA batteries, or DC inlet with optional wall adapter. With the built in crank, one minute of cranking will yield approximately 1 hour of flashlight power.This allows the user to generate power anytime, anywhere. While providing a reliable source of light with the super bright 0.5 watt LED flashlight, the generated power also provides a reliable method of recharging your cell phone with the proper cell phone adapter. In addition to these features, the PSD also has an emergency 130 decibel siren, 2 super bright red emergency LED flashers and a directional compass . It can also access NOAA alerts, information and music via is built in emergency radio. This PSD unit is rubberized to assure grip and accented with chrome highlights. I have likely the prior model of this, which doesn't have the 3AAA battery feature. Purchased sometime in 2005 or 2006, and first used in Hurricane Ike in 2008 in citywide blackout. The crank-power requires a lot of cranking, and the light shuts off rapidly. Very good white light. Radio is mediocre, as I was able to receive better reception using my high quality tiny radio. Compass was worthless. And cell adapter requires a shipping charge(with shipping charges involved). I'm going to keep this in my car, so I don't have to change batteries often.
